So, here are 12 stories from my career. Each one taught me something I still carry into every deal, every negotiation, and every team I lead today.
1. The salary slip that changed everything
When we co-created the digital salary slip in e-Boks and signed Denmark's largest employer, we unlocked more than 50 million DKK in transactions. That single deal transformed e-Boks into the platform it is today. Lesson: Don't underestimate the power of solving one big, clear pain point.
2. A startup in the middle of a crisis
I co-founded a mobile software company right in the middle of the dot.com crash. Everyone thought we were crazy. Later, it became a Børsen Gazelle and a pioneer in mobile software. Lesson: Timing is never perfect. If you believe in the vision, start anyway.
3. From POC to 45 million DKK
We ran a "fast time-to-market" proof of concept for a large insurance company. It started small, but the trust we built turned into a 45 million DKK digitalization contract. Lesson: Start small, deliver fast, and let results do the selling.
4. Crashing a competitor's meeting (by mistake)
I once "accidentally" drove to Odense and ended up in a competitor's closed CRM meeting with a major prospect. Once they realized who I was, I was quickly shown the door. Lesson: Sometimes curiosity takes you places you don't belong — but it also shows your drive.
5. When "okay" was the easiest close ever
We pitched a $180,000 nine-month SaaS POC to one of the world's biggest fashion brands, expecting a tough fight. Their response: "Okay." Lesson: If you clearly show value, price becomes secondary.
6. Three calls, one meeting, three million
A single lead, three calls, and one meeting led to a 3 million DKK data mining consultancy deal. Lesson: Not all big wins take years of chasing — sometimes clarity and timing align.
7. The deal that disappeared overnight
After over a year competing with Oracle, Salesforce, and Adobe, we won a MarTech SaaS deal with a large toy retailer. Three days before signing, the company went bankrupt. Lesson: Celebrate the work, not just the win. External factors are out of your control.
8. Saying no to procurement games
A major eCommerce retailer dragged us through a long process, then pulled procurement tricks to squeeze us. We walked away, saying that there clearly was not a fit and they were not ready for our software. They came back apologizing. Lesson: Walk away when value isn't recognized. Respect goes both ways.
9. From zero knowledge to top 3 sales
In my first IT sales role fresh out of university, I had no idea what an AS400 was — or even what the internet was. Three months later, I was top 3 on the sales leaderboard. Lesson: Hunger beats knowledge — you can always learn the product.
10. Selling EDI… and closing consultancy instead
I tried introducing EDI software into a new segment. Instead, the customer bought a 3.3 million DKK consultancy engagement. Lesson: Listen to what the customer really needs — not just what you want to sell.
11. The highs and the lows of the dot.com era
We once celebrated the best results ever with my team. Three months later, I had to lay everyone off because of the dot.com crash. Lesson: Leadership is about being there through the highs — and especially the lows.
12. The cake that was 999 million users too early
When e-Boks hit 1 million users, we celebrated with a giant cake. The chefs misunderstood and wrote "1 billion users" on the cake. For a moment, we considered renaming e-Boks to "China Box." Lesson: Celebrate milestones — even if the cake gets the numbers wrong.
Final thought
Some of these moments were game-changers. Some were humbling. Some still make me laugh. Together, they shaped my philosophy: Grow People, Grow Businesses.
